Southern Star is powered by 5 x MAN engines in 3 x separate engine rooms driving an ABB diesel electric propulsion system with Voith main propulsion and Rolls Royce double ducted bow tunnel thrusters (x2) and drop down thruster (x1). The power generation system is designed to DP3 requirements for redundancy and safe operation whilst minimising fuel consumption and through life maintenance costs.
